Rest in Power
Yasmin Fernandez, a bastion of the Fight for $15 movement, passed away on Friday, September 15 after she collapsed while working sick at Panda Express. She was 36 years old.
If you’ve been to a minimum wage or Opportunity to Work rally, media event, City Council meeting, our November 2016 election night event, or many other actions, you’ve seen Yasmin speak. She was front and center in winning Opportunity to Work and $15 wages locally and statewide. She could speak on any number of issues, field questions from the media and always bring it back to her core message of justice and solidarity. She was the kind of leader who helped others be bold. She was speaking out more and more about her experiences being LGBTQ as well as Latinx, an immigrant and a low wage worker.
Her family needs help with funeral and related costs. If you would like to contribute, here is the link to donate.
