On Monday night, the City of San Jose is holding a committee meeting at City Hall about Google's planned mega-campus in San Jose. This committee's final recommendations could play a role in whether the City and Google take steps to prevent the huge increases in rents, homelessness and displacement that results from a massive tech expansion into a city. But it can only do this if we stand up and speak up.
That's why, with a number of other community organizations and leaders, we're holding a rally outside City Hall before the meeting to tell the committee, the City and Google that we demand they do better and stand up for ordinary residents. Will you join us on Monday evening in showing your support?
Google is now buying up homes in San Jose that will be torn down to make space for its new mega-campus, but it still hasn’t committed a single step to address displacement and sky-rocketing housing costs that a huge new tech campus will cause.
During the meeting there will be time allocated for comments from the public. This is one of the last chances we will get to demonstrate to this committee that the people of San Jose need their city to step up and fight for them with investments in much-need affordable housing and family-supporting jobs. That's why need people to turn up, stand up and tell the committee about their concerns for the project and why action is needed.
